Service Description

Furk.net is a free file hosting service. Like many others. But for premium users (€10 per month) we have something more to offer - BitTorrent downloads through our servers.

How does it works:

1. You get a .torrent file from third parties like forums or bittorrent search engines like btmon.com or torrentz.com.
2. You upload that .torrent file to Furk.net using the BitTorrent section in your account (not the start page form!).
3. We download the torrent itself and send you an email notice.
4. Now you can download the torrent from our servers using HTTP protocol and your favorite download manager.

Benefits:

1. In most cases we can download torrents faster then you can do. Because our servers located on more faster networks then an ordinary home computer (but if you have a fast 10Mbit connection and your ISP don't throttle p2p then won't get any speed improvements)
2. You don't have to be online all the time when you are downloading torrents.
3. ISPs never shape HTTP traffic but do shape P2P traffic. The traffic between you and our servers is HTTP so will not be shaped. You can download your files at full speed of your connection.
4. Some ISPs filter HTTP traffic. Our servers may be accessed using non-standard HTTP port and/or HTTPS.
5. You are anonymous. Nobody in torrent network can get you IP address or other details.

Limits

Currently we have two main limits:

1. 22GB of HTTP traffic per month (5GB for 3-days trial). Internal Bittorrent traffic is not counted (but monitored)
2. 20GB of disk space for torrents

If you run over your limit there is always a way to pay for extra. For example extra bandwidth is €0.4-0.5 per GB.

Notice

This service may be useful only for users who have some experience with file sharing and for some reason unable to use a regular BitTorrent client such as uTorrent. If you have a decent connection (2-10 mbs) and your ISP doesn't throttle p2p traffic then this service is definitely not for you. Continue using your desktop client and wait for a letter.

Download speeds

1. From BT network your torrent should be ready in 1-3 hours for a CD images size and less then 1 day for a DVD. Since this is a p2p network the speed may vary depending of number of peers. If your torrents are significantly slower you are always free to cancel them and add new ones. BT bandwidth is not counted for you.
2. HTTP speed may vary too. Currently the usual speed is 400-600 kBytes per sec (per file). We strongly suggest to use a download manager specially if you are not located in EU.
